Meet Kiradech Aphibarnrat

In international golfing circles Kiradech Aphibarnrat is celebrated for making an eagle on the last hole at the Indonesian Masters, which give him a shot at the 2018 Masters. This Thailand golf pro, who is hardly known outside of professional golfing associations, is making plans for upcoming trip to Augusta. To keep his options open, and to make sure his ranking is not in any way diminished before coming to the United States, Aphibarnrat has done an about face in accepting an invitation to play at the Boonchu Ruangkit Championship in Bangkok. Several news organizations now say that he has bowed out of the Championship, citing ‘back injuries.’ While not exactly ‘cricket,’ this is a very smart move on his part to make sure his Official World Golf Rank points don’t take a licking — but keep on ticking.

It’s probably no coincidence that the Augusta National just happens to be where Aphibarnrat’s premier career performance took place at a majors golfing event. He finished it T-15.

When golf writers caught up with him in Abu Dhabi recently, they wanted to know what his goal was in playing international golf tournaments. Aphibarnrat cheerfully point at his feet, which were shod in a pair of blindingly white Yeezys — shoes which can cost up to a thousand dollars a pair. He also told the golf writers that he is obsessed with timepieces and wants to own as many Rolex styles as he can by the age of 30. He is 27 now, so he’s got his work cut out for him!
